Meet Officer James Foss
and his partner "Axel"
K9 Axel, a Short-haired sable German Shepherd from Slovaki, was born on April 30, 2006. He was Purchased on August 8, 2007.
After spending some time "getting acquainted" Officer Foss and his partner attended a 16 week, comprehensive Training Academy at the Barnstable County Sheriff's Department under the auspices of Lt Ken Ballinger (BCSD). They both graduated as a Certified patrol K9 patrol Team which means that they are both trained in all phases of basic patrol work including tracking of both fleeing suspects and missing persons, conducting building searches to locate hiding suspects, evidence recovery and crowd control.
On Jan 4, 2008, Foss and Axel successfully completed training and reported for their first shift together on Jan 5, 2008. The two will return to school in September where Axel will be certified in narcotics detection.
Officer Jim Foss, a life-long Hingham resident, joined the Hingham Police Department in June of 1993.
