A Stoughton man was arrested Wednesday and charged with breaking into a Hingham home earlier this month after his fingerprints were matched with those found at the scene.

The break was reported on July 7, 2017 after the resident of a home on HMS Fitzroy Drive returned home after being away for a week and found their home had been broken into. The suspect(s) entered through a rear ground floor bedroom window that had been pushed open and the screen cut. A chair had been placed in front of the window to hide the damage. Jewelry, including a Rolex watch, a lap top and prescription medication were taken from the home. The items totaled approximately $8,000.00.

Detectives located fingerprints on the window near the cut screen. Neighbors described a man who had been visiting a nearby home the week before. That man had been arrested by Hingham Officers the month before for allegedly stealing medication from a home he was visiting.

On July 13 Detectives received a report from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation (B.C.I.) which confirmed the fingerprints recovered matched the man who had been arrested the month before. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the man on July 14. On July 19, Hingham Detectives Daniel Leary and Philip Tracey found the man at a home in Stoughton and placed him under arrest with the assistance of Stoughton Police Officers. He was transported to the Hingham Police station for booking.

Arrested was Paul M. McDonald, age 36, of 167 Porter Street, Stoughton, MA. He was charged with: 1) Breaking and Entering in Daytime to Commit a Felony 2) Larceny from a Building 3) Larceny Over $250.00. The charge of breaking in the daytime was used because the time of the break is not certain.

After booking, he was arraigned at Hingham District Court on July 19. He was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail and will return to court on August 2, 2017.  Contact P.I.O. Sgt. Steven Dearth.
